Welcome to Cause a Cine

Cause a Cine is an all-female blog dedicated to the appreciation, celebration and discussion of film and television. 

Founded by journalism and cinema studies graduate Claire, this blog will feature pieces written by her and a diverse range of students and young people, talking about the issues we care about. 

This blog comes out of the obvious discrepancy between the representation of women in characters and also behind the scenes as content creators, and it is time we took a stand to talk about it. Our mission echoes the work by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, "If she can see it, she can be it." This blog is our contribution to allow girls to see amazing and successful women in the entertainment industry. 

Cause a Cine is also dedicated to the call for more female film critics, and aims to amplify the voices of female-identifying and non-binary film critics and writers.  

When a woman is publicly upset, she is told she is "making a scene." 
We are here to tell you, oh yes we are. Maybe this way, everyone else will listen. 

So join us, as we not only express our anger at injustices, but celebrate our favourite characters, movies, television shows, and those who make them possible.
